Biography:

I graduated from Clemson University (Clemson, South Carolina, USA), in 1986 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Information Systems. It was a brand new degree when I switched to it - for those of us who did not enjoy actually building circuits or writing JCL and Assembler code, CIS combines the software side of Computer Science with a minor in Business, providing the perfect educational background for business application development. My first eight years in the workplace were spent writing in a proprietary language, similiar to Basic. My main focus was on point-of-sale systems for the building materials industry, accounting software for credit unions and electronic claims processing for our medical package.

In 1994 I decided to leave corporate America and go to work for a small company, Financial MicroSystems, Inc. My first task was to take the best of 3 different software products, plus a manual message taking system and create software just to run our business to handle support call logging to client billing and everything in between. This was done with FoxPro; my first dip into "windows" programming; it's scary that someone who is so crafty, could turn out something so ugly when given the freedom to use color! I learned quickly a little color goes a long way in screen design. By the late 90's my boss was looking in to new languages and took us to see a Clarion roadshow... I think Topspeed was introducing 5.0 at the time. Even though myself and a colleague wanted to go the VB route (more 3rd party tools, more programmers to hire from, more reference materials, etc), the boss won, and I started working with Clarion 5.5, converting over our internal app. Although my immersion in to Clarion was slow (I wear a LOT of hats at work), after attending a few DevCons in Florida and ETCs in Tennessee, I became a HUGE fan. For a fairly small community, the Clarion community is the friendliest and most generous one that I've ever had the pleasure to be a part of.

In 2010 I informally joined the ClarionLive! Weekly Webinars as a "host" who did more listening than talking! I've enjoyed my opportunities to be a guinea pig with conversions of C63 to C7, Topspeed to SQL, class writing and various workshops. Everyone knows (including my family and friends) that I'm on a webinar and unavailable every Friday at lunchtime for several hours!

I live in the metro-Atlanta area and am married with *two children* - my husband and my dog Daisy - at least I count them as children! Daisy is a rescue dog and is a black lab/german shorthair pointer/pit bull mix. Daisy is definitely the princess in our household. In my spare time I enjoy reading, scrapbooking, cross-stitching, gardening and nature photography... now if only I could figure out how to get more of that "spare" time!
